One Dead, Two Injured in Early Morning Daytona Beach Crash
Early on Labor Day (Monday, September 3rd), an auto accident happened in Daytona Beach that resulted in the death of one individual and the injury of two others. While the investigation into the incident is still ongoing, initial updates from the scene of the crash did provide the public with much of the relevant information regarding its details.
It was close to 3:00 in the morning when a single car was driving down Beach Street and approaching the intersection of Beach and Cedar Streets. This area is also close to the Halifax Harbor Marina. Inside of the car at the time were at least three individuals. None of the names of these three have been released at this time and we are similarly unclear on their ages, where they were going, and where they were coming from.
As the group were traveling along Beach Street, something occurred to cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. No reasons for this were expounded upon in the report and there are numerous possible scenarios that would have caused such a thing to happen. It may have been that something along the road itself (such as a pothole or an animal crossing the asphalt) caused the driver of the car to respond by jerking the wheel in a certain direction, and it is also possible that factors such as excessive speed, alcohol, or drowsiness led the driver of the car to react in such a way as to cause the vehicle to depart from the roadway.
What is certain is that the car drove off of the road and into a field alongside of the empty street. The car then collided with a large tree located in the field. Pictures from the scene show the vehicle with what appears to be significant damage to its entire body.
While no updates on the condition of the individuals exists, we do know from the initial report that one of the people in the car died as a result of the crash while two of the others were injured. It is not clear if their injuries required hospitalization or if they were able to be treated at the scene and released.
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
