One Dead, Three Injured in Multi-Car Crash in Orange County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 11, 2019

On the night of Tuesday, February 5th, a collision took place along East Colonial Drive that resulted in the death of one person and the injury of several others. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol stated that the auto accident happened close to 10:00 in the evening, along a stretch of East Colonial Drive that runs near to State Road 417.

At this time, a 51-year-old person from Orlando was driving a Toyota SUV down the eastern lanes of East Colonial Drive while a 20-year-old was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion down the western lanes. It is not clear exactly what happened, but apparently the 20-year-old lost control of their vehicle as they were driving, and this resulted in them leaving their lane, crossing over the median, and colliding with two other vehicles, one of them being the Toyota SUV. The reports have not provided any information on what exactly happened to cause the person driving the Fusion to lose control of the vehicle, and it is not clear if the investigators have yet ruled out things such as alcohol, other substances, or speeding.

As a result of the collision, the 50-year-old driver of the SUV sustained injuries that cost him his life. It is believed that the emergency response teams that reached the area after the incident declared this individual dead at the scene. The driver of the second car struck, a 20-year-old from Orlando, only sustained minor injuries, but they were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment of these injuries.

The driver of the Focus and their 19-year-old passenger both suffered from minor injuries as a result of the crash, and they were also taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment. At the time of this writing, it is not known those hospitalized were treated and released and, if so, whether or not the injuries require additional medical attention such as physical therapy.

The Florida Highway Patrol has stated that there are currently charges that are pending against the driver of the focus, however it is not entirely clear exactly what these charges are. It is not known if any of the people involved are filing charges as well.
