One Dead, One Injured in Marion County Rear-End Collision

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 20, 2019

A two-car crash that happened on Sunday, August 18th, in Marion County resulted in the death of a 79-year-old individual. According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the rear-end collision happened close to the Market of Marion Flea Market, sometime during the afternoon. It is believed that only the two cars were involved, and that no one other than the 79-year-old was fatally injured.

Regarding the specific circumstances of the accident, what we know is far is that the 79-year-old was driving a Toyota Corolla down a private road located along 12888 Southeast Highway 441. As mentioned above, this road is close to the Market of Marion Flea Market, although it was not clear if the individual inside of the Corolla was attempting to visit the flea market or if they were simply traveling along a road that was near to where the flea market is located.

It is not entirely clear why what happened next happened, but it appears as though the driver of the Toyota collided with the rear of a Chevy van. At the time of this writing we are not certain whether or not the Chevy was also traveling down the private road or if the driver of the Corolla had reached an intersection with a larger road. It is also possible that the Chevy van was not moving at the time of the crash.

The force of the crash resulted in the driver of the Corolla suffering from severe injuries. It is not known who called the emergency medical teams, but soon there were numerous individuals from various first responder organizations that had rushed to the area in order to offer medical aid to anyone injured in the crash. Assessing the 79-year-old’s situation, they rushed the man to Ocala Regional Hospital. It was after the individual was admitted to the medical center that he succumbed to the severity of their injuries and was pronounced dead.

A passenger who was inside of the Chevy at the time of the crash was also reportedly injured in the accident. They were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
