One Dead, One Injured After Osceola Car Crash Due to Racing
A fatal collision that took place within Osceola County is under investigation as being possibly the result of illegal racing through the streets. According to eyewitness reports, the accident, which cost the life of at least one individual, took place shortly after two cars were seen racing down U.S. 192. The drivers of these two cars were operating their vehicles in reckless ways, swerving through traffic, careening around slower cars, and generally behaving in a manner that not only put their lives at stake but also placed everyone else on the road at risk.
Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol stated that the two cars involved were both BMWs. It is not clear when the two drivers began to race one another, but it is clear that at close to 6:00 in the morning, one of them lost control of the car. This took place as the two drivers were closing in on the intersection of U.S. 192 and I-4.
What caused the driver to lose control of the car is not clear. It is possible that they hit an unexpected dip in the road, or that they became distracted due to something within the cab of the car. It is also possible that the speed at which this individual was traveling was such that all it took was a slight miscalculation for the car to veer off of the roadway and along the shoulder.
The driver of this BMW, a 32-year-old man from Orlando, was not able to regain control over the car as it bumped alongside the highway, drawing nearer and nearer to a large tree standing next to the asphalt. When the car struck the tree, it caused both the driver and the 27-year-old passenger to suffer from serious injuries. It was not immediately clear whether or not either of these two individuals was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is also not clear if the driver of the second car stopped after the first car crashed.
What is clear is that the injuries sustained by the 27-year-old passenger of the crashed BMW were fatal, resulting in him being declared dead at the scene. The driver of this car was rushed from the scene of the crash to Osceola Regional Medical Center. It is believed that his injuries were deemed serious, although it is not clear whether or not they were life-threatening.
