One Dead in Orange County Industrial Accident Involving Garbage Truck

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on January 28, 2019

Reports from the Orange County Fire Rescue are indicating that an individual who became trapped beneath a dump truck on Saturday perished as a result of the injuries they sustained in the accident. These reports indicate that the ordeal took place sometime in the morning and that in involved a stationary dump truck that was located along the 9000 block of Sidney Hayes Road.

What exactly happened is not clear, but according to the spokesperson for the Orange County Fire Rescue it involved a 36-year-old individual who was performing some sort of maintenance on the vehicle.

The truck, according to the report, was stopped along Sidney Hayes Road and the 36-year-old was between the bed of the truck and the truck’s frame. What the individual was doing was not included in the report, but it is believed that the truck was enduring a routine inspection or maintenance, and that it was not out of the ordinary for an individual to be working in the area inhabited by the 36-year-old.

Then something happened.

We are in the dark as to what exactly, but it is clear that the bed of the truck began to lower. Before the worker was able to escape, they were pinned beneath the bed and the truck’s frame, sustaining massive injuries as a result. It is not clear just who called the emergency response crews to the area or how long after the bed of the truck crushed the individual the crews arrived, but it is clear that when the worker was finally able to be pulled from underneath the bed of the garbage truck they had sustained fatal injuries.

While they were alive when the firefighters first reached the location of the incident, the Orange County Fire Rescue crew declared the worker dead at the scene.

An investigation is now underway to determine just what happened to cause this tragic fatality. It is not clear if the person crushed by the truck was an employee of a sanitation department within Orange County or if they were a member of one of the numerous truck repair shops located close to where the incident took place.
