Ocala Teen Killed During Fatal High-Speed Crash
Officers working within Marion County were among the first responders to reach the scene of a deadly crash involving two vehicles on Monday, August 3rd. According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident began sometime around 4:30 in the evening while many drivers were traveling throughout Central Florida on their way home from work.
At this time, a 19-year-old Ocala resident was driving a sedan down 95th Avenue Road inside of Marion County. The report stated that this unnamed individual was not wearing a seatbelt while they were driving. Despite this fact, it is believed that the 19-year-old was traveling at an advanced rate of speed down the southern lanes of 95th Avenue. Traveling down the northbound lanes of 95th Avenue Road at the same time was an SUV. Behind the wheel of the SUV was a 31-year-old Ocala resident. A single 5-year-old passenger was also inside of the SUV at the time.
It was as the paths of the two vehicles neared one another that something happened within the cab of the sedan to cause the driver to suddenly lose control of the vehicle. This loss of control caused the sedan to swerve towards the shoulder, a factor which caused the driver to over-compensate by wrenching the steering wheel in a different direction. This resulted in the sedan swerving across the center line at the exact time that the SUV was passing.
The front of the sedan collided with the left side of the SUV, inflicting severe damage on both vehicles and causing them to ricochet off of one another. The sedan shot off of the roadway and collided with a tree standing nearby. After striking the tree, the sedan broke into two separate pieces.
Emergency response crews rushed to the scene of the crash and began attempting to tend to the individuals involved. The driver of the sedan suffered the largest amount of bodily harm in the incident. They were declared dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the SUV was also gravely injured in the collision, and they were taken from the crash site to a nearby hospital where they were being treated for severe injuries when the initial reports were filed.
The 5-year-old child within the vehicle was also injured, but it is believed that their injuries were not serious.
