Nine Year Old Dies, Family Seriously Injured in Florida Six Vehicle Crash
He enjoyed reading comic books, adventure books and anything Disney. He was funny and often described as being ‘wise beyond his years’. He wanted to be a professor like his mom and was currently learning how to play the piano. This is how friends and family have described a nine year old boy who was killed in a car crash involving six cars on Interstate 75 near State Road 50. The child’s mother, father and five year old sister were all seriously injured in the same crash.
The boy was a passenger in the left back seat of the family’s Mazda, which was driving down the interstate. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by 33 year old Gregory M Andriotis slammed into the rear of the family Mazda near mile marker 302. This impact then caused a chain reaction involving five other vehicles. According to the police report, vehicles on the road had slowed due to an accident around mile marker 305. However, Andriotis failed to slow down, causing the crash.
Besides the family in the Mazda, which took the force of the impact, no one else was injured. The family is being treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.
Although police do not believe alcohol or drugs was a factor in the accident, the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. According to one local newspaper, in 2009 Andriotis was convicted of driving under the influence. He also has two speeding tickets on his record – including one for driving 71 mph in a 45 mph zone. On top of this he received a conviction for reckless driving in 2014.
