New Year’s Day Crash Kills Clermont Driver
On the first day of 2020, an individual from Clermont was behind the wheel of a 2005 Toyota Camry, headed south down County Road 455, when they were involved in a crash with a tree. It is not clear if this incident remains under investigation, but we do know that members of the Florida Highway Patrol were among the first responders to the area where the incident took place. Reports from the FHP gave the name of the individual, meaning that the person was likely identified easily and that the family gave permission for the information to be distributed.
It was sometime around 9:30 at night when the 31-year-old driver was behind the wheel of the Camry and headed down County Road 455. As they neared the intersection of C.R. 455 and Willow Pines Lane, they also approached a sharp curve in the roadway. It is not clear if the 31-year-old was distracted while they were driving, if they were traveling too fast, if they had consumed alcohol or other perception-altering substances, or something else within the roadway resulted in the inability of the driver to maneuver around the curve safely. What is clear is that as the driver approached the curve they were not able to retain control of the vehicle.
The Camry left the roadway and entered the shoulder. While traveling along the shoulder, the driver was not able to regain control of the car quickly enough to prevent it from colliding with a tree nearby. Despite the fact that the driver of the car was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the impact with the tree, the force of the collision was still severe enough to cause the driver to suffer from fatal injuries.
It is not known who called 911 following the incident, but it is believed that numerous emergency response groups arrived at the location shortly after the accident took place. Despite the efforts of the paramedics and EMT’s there was nothing that could be done for the 31-year-old and they were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. No other cars or people were involved in the fatal crash.
