Multi-Vehicle Crash Kills One in Western Orlando Suburb
Authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol are currently investigating the death of an 87-year-old woman who was killed during a three-vehicle collision yesterday afternoon along Silver Star Road in Pine Hills, a suburb just outside of Orlando.
Although this case has not yet reached its conclusion, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol working in Orange County have released a few details surrounding the fatal incident.
Preliminary reports indicate that it was shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2022, when an 87-year-old woman was driving a 2002 Mercedes C240 in the westbound direction of Silver Star Road. As she neared the street’s intersection with North Hastings Street, she attempted to make a left turn in order to travel southbound and in doing so, she positioned her vehicle in the direct path of an oncoming 2020 Hyundai Palisade. Neither driver was able to maneuver out of the way and the two cars were involved in a head-on collision.
The impact from the first crash caused the Mercedes and Hyundai to spin out of control and both vehicles collided with a 2012 Chevy Traverse that was stopped at a red traffic light in the northbound lane of North Hastings Street.
Several emergency response teams from around Orange County, including members of the Florida Highway Patrol, were dispatched to the scene of the multi-vehicle pileup. Upon their arrival, they discovered multiple victims suffering from a variety of injuries. The 87-year-old driver of the Mercedes was transported to Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital in Ocoee where she sadly died soon after.
The 38-year-old driver of the Hyundai and her 11-year-old passenger also sustained serious injuries and they were taken to a local hospital for further medical treatment. The driver of the Traverse suffered minor injuries during the collision and was also driven to a nearby medical facility.
