Multi-Vehicle Crash in Brevard County Leaves Two Dead

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 15, 2019

Four vehicles were involved in a collision along U.S. 1 inside of Brevard County on Wednesday, September 11th, and the force of the collision resulted in several fatalities. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol regarding this multi-vehicle accident indicated that the incident happened sometime close to 5:30 in the evening, right when the rush hour begins to hit its peak. It was at this time that four drivers reached neared the intersection of U.S. 1 and Silver Oak Boulevard.

One of these drivers, an 81-year-old from Melbourne, was behind the wheel of a 2017 KIA. This person was driving their car along the northern lanes of U.S. 1 when, for reasons that are not currently understood, they lost control of the vehicle. Before they were able to regain this control, the KIA traveled out of the northbound lanes and into the southbound ones, directly into the path of an oncoming car. The driver of this second car, a 68-year-old also from Melbourne, was not able to swerve out of the path of the KIA and the two vehicles struck one another head-on.

Two other cars that were traveling close to the colliding vehicles were also involved in the crash, although the reports failed to state the severity of the collision concerning these other two cars.

About the first two vehicles, we know that there was significant damage to both the vehicles and the drivers inside of them. It is not believed that either the KIA or the car which it struck head-on were carrying anyone other than their drivers. Emergency response crews who rushed to the incident after the collision immediately began to tend to the drivers of the two primary cars involved. Both were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, although the reports failed to mention exactly which hospitals. The extent of the injuries sustained by the two elderly individuals involved in the crash was severe, and both were declared dead sometime later on Wednesday night.

No one traveling within the second two vehicles involved in the incident is believed to have suffered from injuries as a result of the crash. It is not clear if any charges are pending or if the investigation remains under investigation.
