Marion County Two-Car Crash Kills One, Critically Injures Another
Florida Highway Patrol troopers are among those investigating a fatal car crash that took place during the evening of Sunday, May 31st, within Marion County. Reports from the FHP have provided the public with much of the information regarding the incident, although not all of the details have yet become public. It is not clear if the Florida Highway Patrol have concluded their investigation or if there are still details which remain to be uncovered and released. At the time of this writing it is not clear if any charges are pending against anyone involved in the incident.
It was sometime close to 9:30 at night when a 34-year-old Ocala resident was headed down the southern lanes of County Road 467. It is not entirely clear, but the reports from the FHP indicated that this individual was driving their sport utility vehicle at a fairly high rate of speed as they approached the intersection between County Road 467 and County Road 484.
At this same time, a 31-year-old individual, also an Ocala resident, was driving along County Road 484 when they reached the same intersection. It is believed that the intersection features a stoplight that controls traffic. It is further believed that at the time that the sedan and the SUV reached the intersection that the light was green for vehicles traveling along County Road 484.
The driver of the sedan, seeing the green light, continued to pass through the intersection. The driver of the SUV, apparently either not seeing or not caring about their red light, also continued to travel through the intersection. This resulted in the SUV T-boning the sedan, a crash that occurred with such force that it caused the sedan to erupt in flames.
We do not know who called 9-1-1 to report the incident, but shortly after the crash took place numerous emergency response teams rushed to the area. When they arrived, there was nothing that they could do for the 31-year-old driver of the sedan. This person was declared dead at the scene of the crash. The 34-year-old driver of the SUV, on the other hand, was alive, although with critical injuries. They were rushed to a nearby hospital where they are still receiving medical treatment.
No other details were available at the time of this writing.
