Juveniles Driving a Stolen Vehicle Involved in a Fatal Tampa Car Crash
Detectives with the Tampa Police Department are currently investigating a deadly car accident that claimed the life of a 44-year-old woman this past Saturday evening after the sedan she was riding in was rear-ended by a stolen vehicle along Turkey Creek Road.
According to preliminary collision reports from members of the Tampa Police Department, it was close to 10:45 p.m. on March 12, 2022, when on-duty officers positioned near the intersection of Chelsea Avenue and 26th Street were able to identify a black Nissan that had previously been reported stolen. Authorities attempted to initiate a routine traffic stop, however, the driver of the Nissan did not pull over and fled the scene in the direction of Plant City.
As the Nissan drove eastbound down Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard with the police in full pursuit, the driver decided to make an abrupt turn onto southbound Turkey Creek Road and in doing so, the Nissan rear-ended a Honda sedan carrying three people. The force of impact from the collision caused the Honda to propel forward and crash into a roadside telephone pole.
Since local officers were already pursuing the black Nissan, they were able to contact Tampa emergency responders almost immediately after the accident occurred. Upon their arrival, it was discovered that everyone in the stolen vehicle was an underage juvenile ranging in age from twelve to fifteen. Two of the four boys sustained minor injuries during the collision and they were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Sadly, a 44-year-old female passenger of the Honda suffered life-threatening injuries and she passed away during the accident. Two other occupants of the Honda, a 30-year-old male and a 24-year-old female, were also injured during the crash.
The investigation into this fatal auto accident is currently ongoing, and it is unclear if anyone involved in the case will face formal legal charges.
