Hit-and-Run Collision Kills 20-Year-Old Man in Orange County
As the number of auto accidents resulting in fatalities here in Florida continues to rise at an alarming rate, law enforcement officials from around the state are hoping that the record-breaking amount of motorists who are hitting the road this Memorial Day weekend will stay safe, abide by the rules of the road, and not exacerbate the situation any further. Sadly, this was not the case this past Saturday evening after a hit-and-run collision claimed the life of a 20-year-old man in Orange County.
According to preliminary collision reports from the responding officers with the Florida Highway Patrol on Saturday May 29th, 2021, an Acura with three 20-year-old occupants was travelling northbound along Orange Blossom Trail in Orange County when a Ford pick-up truck driving in the southern direction on the same street suddenly decided to make a left-hand turn at Doss Avenue. This abrupt, last-minute change of course for the pick-up truck caused the vehicle to crash into the front-end of the Acura with so much force that the Acura left the roadway and slammed into a nearby tree.
Orange County emergency medical teams arrive at the scene of the severe accident to find the three 20-year-olds – 2 men and 1 woman – within the Acura suffering from a range of injuries. As soon as they were stabilized, the victims were rushed to the nearest hospital where one male succumbed to the seriousness of his injuries shortly upon arrival and he passed away. The other 20-year-old man was said to be in critical condition at the time of this writing, and the female individual received treatment for minor injuries. No one in the Acura was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
Authorities are still searching for the driver of the Ford pick-up truck as they fled the scene of the accident when it occurred. The Florida Highway Patrol is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying either the vehicle or the driver involved in this fatal incident. Anyone with relevant information pertaining to this case is asked to contact the Crimeline at (407) 737-2213.
