Four-Car Crash Caused by Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputies

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 1, 2020

A multi-car crash that took place within Osceola County on Friday, January 24th, and that resulted in the injury of several individuals, is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Reports from the FHP indicated that it was sometime during the day when two vehicles had approached and then stopped at the light governing the intersection between Boggy Creek Road and Boggy Terrace Drive.

Lt. Kim Montes spoke on behalf of the Florida Highway Patrol to discuss the known facts of the case thus far. She told reporters that the two cars stopped at the intersection were both being driven by civilians. Before the light changed, two patrol cars being driven by deputies with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office approached the intersection. As the patrol cars neared the stopped cars, one of the deputies lost control of their vehicle. This resulted in one patrol car colliding with the other, forcing it into a collision with both of the stopped cars.

After the crash took place, emergency response crews rushed to the area. When they arrived, they found that all of the people inside of all the cars had suffered from injuries. Both of the deputies were transported from the scene of the accident to a nearby hospital. It is not clear if they were badly injured, since the hospitalization of officers is standard whenever they are involved in an accident, regardless of how minor. The civilians, which included two drivers as well as an unknown number of passengers, declined to be transported from the area to a hospital. It is not clear if this is because they believed their injuries to be too minor to warrant hospitalization or if it was because the cost of riding in an ambulance and receiving emergency treatment at a hospital was simply too high to be an option.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident remains under investigation. Charges are pending against whichever deputy was responsible, although the nature of these charges is not exactly clear.
