Fatal Crash in Orange County After Pickup Tries to Avoid Pedestrian
Reports are still emerging from the local authorities regarding a fatal SUV rollover accident that took place in Orange County during the early days of April. What we know so far comes from statements made by various individuals within the Florida Highway Patrol. Their words were hedged by the fact that the incident remains under investigation at this time.
It was early in the morning, close to 5:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 1st, when a 38-year-old from Orlando was driving their 1997 Ford pickup truck down Valencia College Lane. At this same time, a pedestrian was walking along Valencia College Lane. The vehicle and the pedestrian were in a similar area when the pedestrian left the side of the road and began to walk across the asphalt. It is believed that the pedestrian walked directly into the path of the pickup truck, something that the driver of the truck immediately attempted to remedy by wrenching the wheel of the vehicle to the side and swerving out of the way.
Unfortunately, this maneuver caused the pickup truck to lunge into the opposite lane of traffic and directly into the path of an oncoming 2004 Chrysler SUV. Without any more time to practice evasion, the Ford pickup truck and the Chrysler collided head-on with one another.
Emergency response crews rushed to the area as soon as the accident was reported. When they arrived, they found both of the vehicles badly mangled with their occupants all suffering various injuries that ranged from fairly minor to severe. The drivers of both the pickup and the SUV managed to escape from the incident with only minor wounds to their bodies. It was upon the passenger of the Chrysler that the majority of the damage was inflicted. They were rushed by paramedics from the crash site to Orlando Health where emergency staff attempted to reverse the course of the damage suffered in the crash. The efforts of the doctors and nurses, however, was ultimately not enough and the individual was declared dead sometime after arriving at the medical facility.
The crash remains under investigation. It is not clear if any charges are currently pending. It is also not believed that the pedestrian suffered any injuries as a result of the accident.
