Early Morning Crash in Volusia County Leaves One Dead

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 20, 2019

On Wednesday, August 28th, a report was filed by the Florida Highway Patrol regarding a fatal accident that took place early that same morning inside of Volusia County. According to this report, the incident happened around 2:25 in the morning, a time when traffic is light and not many people are around to witness or participate in crashes. At this time, a 20-year-old person was behind the wheel of a 2002 Hyundai Sonata, traveling down the northern lane of Took Farms Road. It is not known if there were other cars in the area when the crash took place. It is not known if there were any witnesses to the crash.

The crash itself happened for reasons that are not immediately clear. At the time of this writing, what we know is that the 20-year-old driver – who is believed to have been alone in the vehicle at the time – lost control of the vehicle. Why this happened is not known. It is possible that the driver swerved to avoid striking an animal, or that they struck a pothole and had the steering wheel wrenched from their hands. It is also possible that the driver fell asleep at the wheel of the car. It is not clear if the Florida Highway Patrol are looking into whether or not alcohol played a role in the incident.

Before the driver was able to regain control of the vehicle, the right side of the car collided with a utility pole that was standing along the side of the road. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, a fact which possibly added to the injuries they suffered due to the force of this collision between the car and the pole.

As stated above, it is not clear who was at the scene to witness the event, but someone contacted 9-1-1 and soon there were numerous emergency response crews at the scene. When they arrived, the 20-year-old motorist was still alive, although badly injured. They were transported from the scene of the accident to a nearby hospital. It was sometime after being admitted to the hospital that the individual was pronounced dead.

An investigation into the crash remains underway.
