Dumptruck Overturns in Brevard County, Hazmat Crews Called In

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on November 1, 2019

Hazmat crews working within Brevard County were on hand shortly after an accident that took place on Monday, October 28th, along State Road 524. Reports from the Brevard County Fire Rescue indicate that the hazmat crews as well as other emergency response crews rushed to the area sometime shortly before 8:00 in the morning in response to reports of a dump truck crashing and overturning on the road.

The initial reports state that the dump truck was hauling a load of dirt at the time when the driver lost control. What the reports failed to mention is whether or not this dirt was contaminated. It is often the case that companies who perform soil remediation work will load their dump trucks with the contaminated soil in order to haul it to a processing facility. Again, it is not clear whether or not the dirt being carried by the truck on Monday’s incident was contaminated with anything or if it was clean. We know that the truck was traveling along State Road 524 in Cocoa when the crash took place, and that during the incident the truck overturned. It is believed that the precise location of the incident was at the intersection of State Road 524 and Adamson Road.

When the truck overturned, the impact with the ground left the fuel tank punctured and leaking. The reports did not say just how much of the fuel leaked from the tank as a result of the truck overturning, but it was enough to result in the need for hazmat crews to rush to the crash site in order to clean up the spill.

While crews cleaned up the spill and the debris from the collision, paramedics and EMTs rushed to the aid of the individual behind the wheel of the truck. It was not clear if the driver of the truck was injured in the incident or if they managed to escape from the collision without need of hospitalization. The reports also failed to state whether or not any other cars or individuals were involved in the crash, although the absence of this information suggests that only the one person experienced the crash.
