Dump Truck Crashes into Overpass in Seminole County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 20, 2020

A dramatic series of pictures are the best possible description of an event that took place on Saturday, September 19th, within Seminole County. It was before evening on the start of the weekend when a dump truck was involved in an accident as it was traveling down Interstate 4 and State Road 436. They were either approaching mile marker 92 or had just passed this area when they reached an area of the major highway where an overpass closed above their cab.

The height of this overpass was not included in initial reports, nor was any information on whether there is adequate signage posted around the overpass to indicate the maximum height allowed for vehicles traveling underneath. Another aspect of the investigation will focus on whether or not the driver of the truck was properly trained to understand the height of their vehicle or if there was any material within the cab of the dump truck to inform them about possible dangers of driving underneath overpasses such as the one in question.

What exactly took place remains the subject of the investigation, however the pictorial evidence suggests that the bed of the dump truck was perhaps raised at the time when the driver attempted to go underneath the bridge. As a result, the bed caught on the underside of the overpass. The truck was still traveling at a high rate of speed at this point, and when the bed became snagged it caused the front of the vehicle to be suddenly lifted off of the ground and slammed into the metal beams above. The force of this caused the cab to become trapped while suspended 20 feet or so off of the ground.

The driver within the truck was forced to wait until emergency response crews could reach the area. Then the driver was carefully pulled from the cab and treated at the scene for minor injuries they suffered as a result of the crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and it is believed that the driver was able to return home after they received treatment for the injuries they sustained. The crash remains under investigation.
