Driver Killed During Two-Car Crash on U.S. 17-92 in Seminole County
Local Seminole County authorities have formally opened an official investigation into a two-car accident that claimed the life of one individual and injured six others yesterday afternoon near Marion Lane in Longwood.
Preliminary reports from responding officers with the Longwood Police Department indicate that it was approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2022, when a yet-to-be-named person was driving a white Nissan Altima in the southbound direction of U.S. 17-92. As the vehicle approached the highway’s intersection with Kathryn Drive, a burgundy Kia Sedona entered the area from the north. The Sedona then proceeded to make a left turn and in doing so, the Sedona crashed into the driver’s side of the Altima.
Members of the Longwood Police Department, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department, and emergency response teams with the Longwood Fire Department were all dispatched to the scene of the auto accident. Upon their arrival, they were quickly able to determine that the driver of the Nissan Altima had sustained severe, life-threatening injuries during the collision and had already passed away.
Four juvenile passengers within the Kia Sedona were transported to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando with non-life-threatening injuries. Two female adults, also from the Kia Sedona, were taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center and were said to be in stable condition at the time of this publication. Everyone is expected to make a full recovery.
Charges have not been filed against any individual involved in this fatal collision, although that could change depending on the outcome of the investigation. The area where the accident occurred was closed down for several hours while clean-up crews removed debris from the crash. Traffic was redirected at Wildmere Avenue.
