Drag Racing May Have Been a Factor in West Delray Crash

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on December 3, 2014

Two men who stand charged with vehicular homicide and manslaughter in the 2013 death of Fran Abel, may have been drag racing at the time of the crash, investigators say. A judge will meet with attorneys from both side of the case on January 14th to set trial dates for the two men, Amir Talebzedah and Gregory Comon. The men were allegedly travelling at speeds in excess of 100 mph on Jog Road prior to slamming into Mrs. Abel’s Audi as she attempted to make a left turn.

Investigators believe the incident started with both men at the intersection of Jog Road and Clint Moore Road heading north. Several eyewitnesses reported that the men were driving aggressively, darting in and out of lanes and pulling up almost to the bumpers of slower vehicles travelling in front of them. As they approached the Mizner’s Preserve Way intersection, where Mrs. Abel was waiting to turn south, Abel pulled out into the intersection, striking the passenger side of Comon’s vehicle. The Audi was then hit directly in the driver’s side by Talebzedah’s Hyundai. Mrs. Abel died of her injuries at the scene.

According to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, both men have had several driving incidents over the last few years, including speeding tickets and other violations – a total of 12 violations between the two. The defense for the two men claims that Mrs. Abel is at fault in the accident for trying to enter Jog Road with no clear path. Although the prosecution has not been allowing to common directly, it is clear that they disagree. Assistant State Attorney Judith Arco stated that it appeared to witnesses that the men were racing each other in a motion to obtain medical records for a back surgery Talebzedah had following the incident.
