Daytona Beach Woman Killed During Rear-End Crash on Interstate 4
While most people were busy celebrating the “reason for the season” this past Easter weekend, the lives of three families were forever changed after their loved ones were involved in a fatal auto accident along Interstate 4 in Orange County near Maitland.
According to car accident reports from troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol, it was shortly before 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023, when a 20-year-old woman from Edgewater and her 20-year-old passenger from Daytona Beach were travelling in a 2014 Ford Focus down I-4 in Orange County. As the pair approached the area of mile marker 90, something caused the vehicle to crash into a concrete safety wall, resulting in a flat tire for the Ford Focus.
The driver of the now disabled vehicle was able to successfully pull her vehicle over to the shoulder of the interstate and both occupants exited the Ford Focus to assess the damage. It was as the two women were standing near the back of the car when a 26-year-old man from Orlando entered the vicinity from the eastbound direction in a 2007 Honda Civic. For reasons that are currently unknown, the driver of the Honda Civic veered off of I-4 and rear-ended the Ford Focus, striking both women in the process.
Orange County emergency response teams and officers with the Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene of the two-car crash and immediately transported all three individuals to local hospitals with varying life-threatening injuries. Both drivers were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious condition while the passenger was taken to AdventHealth Orlando. Sadly, the 20-year-old Daytona Beach woman did not survive and passed away shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
No further updates surrounding this deadly auto accident are available at this time. This portion of the interstate was reopened to local traffic several hours later.
