Crash on Colonial Drive in Orlando Results in Fatality and Manhunt

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 15, 2020

A fatal collision in Orlando remains under investigation as authorities attempt to uncover just what happened and who is responsible. What we know at the time of this writing comes courtesy of the Orlando Police Department, members of whom were on hand to respond to the reports of an automobile accident along a heavily trafficked stretch of Colonial Drive.

Reports began to reach the emergency dispatchers within Orlando sometime during the morning on Monday, July 13th. The 9-1-1 callers told the dispatchers that a crash had taken place along the eastern lanes of Colonial Drive, where this road intersects with Hyer Avenue. The callers also told the authorities that at least two cars were involved in the incident.

By the time members of the Orlando Police as well as emergency response crews reached the area, the driver of one of the two cars had fled the scene, leaving only one badly mangled vehicle still at the crash site. Pictures released from the scene show a silver car whose make and model are no longer recognizable due to the level of damage done to the car’s exterior. While the precise number of people within this vehicle was not included in the reports, we do know that at least one person suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

In addition to the destroyed car and single fatality, the reports stated that a single power pole had been completely knocked over as a result of the collision. Aerial photos of Colonial Drive following the crash show the large wooden pole stretched over the bike lane as well as both of the eastern lanes of Colonial Drive. The power outage from this downed pole affected traffic lights on a long stretch of Mills Avenue that reached from Amelia Street to Marks Street. While the accident was being investigated and the area cleared of debris, police with the Orlando Police Department were asking motorists to find and use alternate routes of travel through the area.

At the time of this writing, the police investigation is focusing on identifying and locating the driver of a white four-door car that was reportedly seen fleeing the area down the western lanes of Colonial Drive following the crash.
