Collision Between Pickup and Sedan in Ocala Results in Serious Injury
A two-car collision within the City of Ocala resulted in the serious injury of at least one person during the early afternoon of Thursday, May 21st. We believe the collision took place at the intersection of West Silver Springs Boulevard and North Pine Avenue, sometime after 12:30 p.m. Two vehicles were involved in the collision, one of them a pickup truck. The other car was described as being a sedan.
What we know about the lead-up to the crash, the crash itself, and its aftermath come from reports issued by the Ocala Fire Rescue. After the collision, the emergency calls resulted in the OFR rushing to the scene to offer assistance, and their first hand reports are therefore the most complete and full that we have to date. However, while the OFR provided many details on the rescue of a trapped individual following the crash, they do not offer much insight into the events that led to the incident itself.
Because the crash took place at an intersection, it is possible that the accident resulted from one of the two vehicles involved running a red light. It is also possible that both of the vehicles were traveling along the same road, even in the same direction, and that the crash happened when one of them became distracted and lost control of their vehicle.
When the emergency response crews from Ocala reached the area they were joined by the Marion County Fire Rescue as well as the Ocala Police Department. Together, these three groups began to aid the individuals who were most seriously injured in the crash. It appears as though the driver of the sedan suffered from the worst of the injuries. Their car was badly mangled in the incident and the emergency crews were forced to pull this person out of the car through the passenger side of the vehicle. After being taken from the car, this individual was transferred to a nearby hospital as a trauma alert.
The individuals inside of the pickup truck escaped the entire incident without injury.
It is not known if the authorities are currently working to prepare any charges.
