Clermont Teenager Killed During Two-Car Crash on Highway 17
The family and friends of a 17-year-old high school student from Clermont are in mourning this week after their loved one suffered fatal injuries during an auto accident along Highway 17 this past Tuesday evening.
According to preliminary incident reports from the Clermont Police Department, it was shortly before 6 p.m. on January 11, 2022, when 17-year-old Victoria Rose Gonzalez was riding as a passenger in a white BMW that was traveling in the northbound direction of Highway 17. As the BMW approached the highway’s intersection with Legendary Boulevard, a yet-to-be-determined issue caused the driver of the vehicle to lose control of the car and cross over the roadway’s median before finally coming to a complete stop after colliding with another motorist in the area.
Local emergency response teams in Clermont were dispatched to the scene of the car accident and upon their arrival, they quickly identified multiple victims requiring a variety of medical treatments. A total of five people were transported with serious injuries to local facilities for further assistance. No additional updates have been released.
Sadly, 17-year-old Victoria Rose Gonzalez was unable to survive the severity of her injuries and she passed away. “She was the most amazing person anyone could ever meet. Having her in your life was that one piece of light you could have. She’s always smiling and joking and laughing,” said the young teen’s aunt Susan Anderson.
Traffic homicide detectives with the Clermont Police Department are currently investigating the cause of this fatal incident, but have not yet brought this case to a sufficient conclusion. A witness has since stepped forward stating that they saw the BMW traveling at a high rate of speed right before the crash, so it is possible that the driver of the BMW will face legal consequences for her actions behind the wheel on the day of the accident.
