Car Erupts into Flames, Driver Dies in Polk County Crash

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 3, 2020

Members of the Florida Highway Patrol were among the first responders to an incident that took place towards the end of August and resulted in the death of a single individual. What we know so far includes the information that the crash involved a single car and took place within Polk County, on a stretch of the extremely busy Interstate 4.

It was shortly before 2:00 in the afternoon on Wednesday, August 26th, when an individual behind the wheel of a sedan turned the vehicle onto Interstate 4 in Polk County. The reports suggest that this person was driving their vehicle at high speed, although this does not necessarily mean that the driver was traveling above the posted speed limit. Instead, it could simply mean that the driver was traveling around the limit allowed in the area, which would still mean that they were going very fast. When traveling at highway speeds, any incident involving a vehicle becomes far more deadly than it otherwise might have been.

Something happened within the car as the driver was making their way down the highway, and the driver of the vehicle lost control. Before they were able to regain any sort of control of the car, they swerved over all of the western lanes and onto the westbound shoulder. It is fortunate that the driver swerved across their own lanes of travel rather than the eastern lanes as this would have placed them in a position where a head-on collision with another vehicle was highly possible.

Instead, the vehicle departed the shoulder and sped directly towards a tree. At this point, the driver was still unable to regain control of the car, and the vehicle crashed into the tree with a considerable amount of force. The impact caused the car to erupt into flames.

When emergency response crews reached the area, there was very little they could do for the driver of the car. This person was pronounced dead at the scene. The emergency crews did extinguish the flames and then began the investigation into the incident. This investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to parse out what happened within the car to cause the driver to lose control.
