23-Year-Old Dies After Car Crashes into Orlando Retention Pond

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 20, 2020

Police in the City of Orlando issued the first reports relating to the death of a woman who was inside of a vehicle after it crashed into a retention pond within Orange County. It was early in September when the incident, which was viewed by many witnesses, took place. While an investigation into what happened within the car remains underway, it is very possible that the precise reasons behind the crash will never actually come to light.

It was close to 8:00 on the morning of Tuesday, September 8th, when the woman was driving her car, a Nissan Versa, near the retention pond in question. The woman was either traveling down Conroy Road, I-4, or was on the ramp connecting these two roadways when something happened to cause the driver to lose control of their vehicle and shoot off of the roadway close to the Mall at Millenia. Before they were able to regain control of their vehicle, it crashed forcefully into the water of the pond. As a result of this crash, the driver of the car sustained severe injuries.

Emergency response crews were called to the area and arrived shortly after the auto accident took place. After striking the water, the car began to submerge rapidly, and divers were called in to reach the car. Video shows the divers accessing the submerged vehicle and then pulling the driver, a 23-year-old, from the vehicle. After she was rescued from the water, she was immediately rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center. When the woman reached the medical facility, they were alive and breathing, although in severe condition and deteriorating fast. The Orlando Police Chief told reporters that because she was breathing there was great hope that she would manage to pull through.

Sadly, the injuries the driver sustained in the crash were too severe and she was declared dead sometime after arriving at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The car was pulled from the pond sometime after, and two of the eastern lanes of I-4 were closed while the authorities conducted their preliminary investigation.

It is hoped that additional information will become available as soon as it is known to the authorities.
