Three Teens Killed During Daytona Beach Auto Accident
Authorities with the Daytona Beach Police Department are still trying to determine the cause of a fatal auto accident that claimed the lives of three teenagers early yesterday morning on International Speedway Boulevard.
Preliminary car accident reports from the responding officers with the Daytona Beach Police Department indicate that it was close to 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, when five teenagers in a 2020 Nissan Murano were driving along International Speedway Boulevard. As the group neared the area of the 800th block of this main thoroughfare between Adams Street and Franklin Street, something caused the driver of the Nissan Murano to lose control of the vehicle, crash through a bus stop, and slam into a tree on the side of the road.
Several Volusia County emergency response teams were dispatched to the crash site, including officials from the Daytona Beach Police Department and the Daytona Beach Fire Department. Upon their arrival, they quickly assessed the situation and sadly discovered that a 14-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy, and a 19-year-old man had all sustained life-ending injuries during the auto accident and were declared dead at the scene.
Two other individuals in the Nissan Murano, a 16-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man, were both transported to Halifax Health Medical Center. The 16-year-old girl was said to be in critical condition while the 19-year-old man was alert and stable en route to the hospital. No further information regarding their injuries has been released.
“While the cause of this accident remains under investigation, we are exhausting all investigative means and will remain in contact with the families throughout the process,” said the Daytona Beach Police Department in a statement to the press.
