Semi Hauling Eggs Overturns on I-4 Near Orlando
On Wednesday, October 14th, an unusual semi-truck accident occurred while it was traveling down the eastern lanes of Interstate 4 within Orlando. The truck was hauling an enormous load of chicken eggs, all of them packed inside of cardboard containers. Usually, this is enough to keep the eggs safe as they jostle in the back of vehicles, and the eggs arrive where they are intended intact and ready to be sold. The packaging, however, is not meant to withstand unusual stress, and this is exactly what it was subjected to on the mid-October day, while the semi-truck was driving down the extremely busy Interstate 4 within the limits of the City of Orlando.
It was shortly before 12:00 p.m. when the driver of the semi-truck lost control of their vehicle for reasons that remain under investigation. Reports suggested that no other vehicles were involved in the incident, which leads us to the conclusion that something happened within the cab of the semi to cause the driver to lose control at the precise moment when they did.
The crash took place close to the entrance for the eastbound lanes of State Road 408, which led observers towards the suspicion that the driver was attempting to transfer from I-4 onto State Road 408 when the violent accident took place.
Pictures from the scene show the truck was extremely mangled in the crash. Furthermore, after the big rig overturned it erupted in flames. In order to reach the driver of the semi, fire and rescue crews from the City of Orlando first needed to extinguish the fire. Then, they used the jaws of life to saw off the roof of the semi’s cab. From there, the rescue crews worked carefully to extricate the driver, who was injured although conscious and speaking to rescuers throughout the entire ordeal.
It is believed that the driver was alone in the semi-truck at the time of the crash, and that no other individuals were injured as a result of the collision.
The eggs within the semi were destroyed. This amounts to likely thousands of dollars in trashed product, although this pales in comparison to the possible physical toll that such an accident could have on the driver of the semi.
The driver was transported from the scene to a nearby hospital where they were treated for serious injuries.
