Multiple Trucks Collide in Fatal St. Cloud Crash

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on April 11, 2020

Numerous vehicles are believed to have been involved in a crash that turned fatal in St. Cloud on the morning of Thursday, April 2nd. Among the numerous first responders to the incident were members of the Florida Highway Patrol. Their reports provide us with the most comprehensive details relating to the preliminary investigation of the event.

It was close to 7:00 in the morning when several vehicles were traveling in close proximity to one another down the northern lanes of Narcoossee Road in Osceola County. Among the vehicles were a semi-truck working for the U.S. Postal Service. Within the truck were letters, packages, and envelopes being sent through the USPS to locations throughout the country. Also involved were a tow truck and a street sweeper. The street sweeper was along the side of the road and it is believed that the tow truck was in some way aiding the sweeper in its work. A 42-year-old man from Oviedo was the driver of the street sweeper, and at the time of the crash they were standing on the outside of their vehicle. It is not clear what exactly they were doing out of the sweeper, but the presence of the tow truck suggests that the sweeper had in fact broken down in some way.

The driver of the postal-semi either failed to see the tow truck and the street sweeper or otherwise believed them to be moving. The two vehicles were, in fact, quite still. In the space of a few short moments, the semi-truck collided with the rear of both the tow truck and the sweeper. The truck also struck the 42-year-old driver of the street sweeper before the individual was able to escape from the enormous vehicles.

The force of the crash caused the street sweeper to overturn onto its side.

Emergency response crews rushed to the crash site and began to both aid the injured, conduct a preliminary investigation, and clear the road of debris. The driver of the sweeper was severely injured in the crash and the emergency medical personnel who arrived declared them dead at the scene.

The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
