Massive Traffic Delays After Semi and Car Collide in Osceola County Toll Booth

Images from the scene of an accident involving a semi truck and a tollbooth along the Florida Turnpike speak of the extreme force involved when a truck hauling blocks and bags of ice crashed heavily into a concrete pillar separating toll lanes. According to current reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Monday, October 5^th, at the tollbooth located along the Florida Turnpike’s southbound lanes. Located at mile marker 236, this tollbooth normally has four different lanes for each direction. As a result of the accident, three of these lanes were closed. The following traffic jam stretched 3 miles away from the tollbooth itself and resulted in hours of delays as drivers frantically searched for alternate routes to reach their own final destinations.

What exactly took place is still under investigation, however the current reports do indicate that the authorities are looking into whether or not excessive speed played a contributing role in the accident. We also know that the driver of the semi truck was badly injured and was airlifted from the scene of the crash to a hospital located nearby.
