Pedestrian Struck and Killed Near Orlando Country Club
On the night of Monday, October 26th, officers with the Orlando Police Department were called to the intersection of Curry Ford Road and Woodgate Boulevard after an accident involving a car and a pedestrian. Reports from the police were swift in reaching the news, and they led with the information that the incident was, in fact, a hit-and-run crash. These sorts of collisions are distressingly common within Central Florida, but their occurrence never ceases to sadden and cause alarm.
The reports stated that it was close to 8:45 in the morning when the pedestrian was walking along Curry Ford Road, nearing the intersection of Woodgate Boulevard. The area where these two roads intersect, and the area where the individual was walking, is very close to the Ventura Country Club. It is not clear if either the pedestrian or the driver of the car involved had been at the club shortly before the accident took place.
While the reports did not indicate if the pedestrian was near to a crosswalk or any other pedestrian zone, they did state that the pedestrian began to cross Curry Ford Road close to the intersection. At this time, a gray Ford Mustang entered the scene.
The pedestrian was not able to escape from the Mustang and the driver of the Mustang presumably failed to notice the pedestrian until it was too late. The vehicle struck the man while still traveling at a fairly high rate of speed, and the force of the collision caused the pedestrian to suffer from extremely severe injuries. The driver of the Mustang panicked and fled from the area. It was not until sometime later that they were able to compose themselves and return to the scene of the incident where they identified themselves to the authorities.
Paramedics and EMTs were among the first responders to the crash and they rushed to tend to the badly injured pedestrian. Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do to heal this person’s injuries, and the man was declared dead at the scene.
Currently, charges are pending against the driver of the Mustang. The incident does remain under investigation.
