Pedestrian Killed Crossing U.S. 192 in Osceola County
Around 9:45 A.M. on Tuesday, John Levien, 82, from Celebration was using the crosswalk to pass over International Drive and U.S. Highway 192 in Osceola County. At the same time, a box truck being driven by Kissimmee resident John Walker, 35, was driving southbound on International drive. When he reached the intersection, Mr. Walker began making a right turn into U.S. 192’s westbound lane. The truck and the car collided.
The report issued by the Florida Highway Patrol states that the front of the box truck hit Mr. Levien who was just starting to cross. Upon reaching Celebration Health, Mr. Levien was pronounced dead.
As of this moment, no formal charges have been brought against Mr. Walker, and it is uncertain who exactly is at fault for the accident. As it occurred in a crosswalk, and as the elderly Mr. Levien was in a wheelchair, it is highly possible that Mr. Walker will have charges brought against him. However, it is also possible that Mr. Walker made the turn legally and Mr. Levien was crossing when he should not have.
Either way, families are now forced to deal with the unexpected and abrupt loss of a loved one and all the emotional and financial struggles that often accompany such a loss. Incidents like this are not as uncommon as we might like to think.
Every year, thousands of people across Florida are placed into situations where people they know and love are taken from them. Frequently, these instances of wrongful death are the result of a specific individual’s negligence and irresponsibility. These individuals should be made to pay for any financial events that will arise from their actions, but this can only happen if they are brought before a court of law.
If you have experienced the loss of a loved one due to an automotive accident or some other circumstances, then you have the right to receive proper legal representation to help you recover your losses and ease the financial burden such losses often carry along with them. Many people are not aware of their rights under Florida law, and so they don’t seek out representation when they should. For a free initial consultation, contact the Law Offices of James O.
