Pedestrian Injured in Apopka Hit-and-Run

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on October 17, 2019

During the middle of October, police working within Apopka responded to reports of a pedestrian accident which took place at the intersection of North Park Avenue and East Sandpiper Street. The reports regarding this incident first began to arrive sometime around 7:45 in the evening. It is not clear who first contacted the police or if many witnesses were on hand to assist the first responders in their initial investigation.

When the police arrived at the scene, they were confronted with an injured pedestrian. The initial reports on the event did not describe the injuries of the pedestrian in any detail, and it is currently unknown whether or not the injuries were fairly benign or if they were more serious, requiring hospitalization.

Piecing together the various details in the extremely sparse initial report, it appears that the pedestrian was attempting to cross the intersection when they were struck by a car. It is not clear if the pedestrian had the right of way at the time they were struck. It is also not clear if the area features any sort of pedestrian safety zones such as crosswalks or signs alerting drivers to the presence of pedestrians.

What is clear, however, is that after striking the pedestrian the driver of the car fled the scene.

It is possible that the driver was unaware that they had just collided with a pedestrian. In some very rare circumstances, usually involving very large vehicles, drivers have no knowledge of what took place until they see the reports of the incident on the news. Again, the possibility of this being the case is extremely rare, meaning that the most likely scenario is that the driver of the car was aware of the incident and decided to flee the area in order to avoid being caught by the police.

This means that a search is now underway for the driver of the vehicle, and police working within Apopka are asking that anyone with information regarding the collision come forward. It is most often due to the assistance of witness or other knowledgeable members of the public that accidents such as this one are resolved.
