Pedestrian In Critical Condition after Orlando Hit-and-Run
Another unnamed Orlando pedestrian was struck by a car this week. This accident, which took place on Wednesday morning, happened along Interstate 4. Interstate 4 is located in downtown Orlando, making it a highway that carries a particularly high-volume of car traffic. While there are pedestrian bridges and safe options for foot traffic located at various points along this stretch of road, it seems as though the woman, who has not been named, was crossing the highway itself, trying to dodge cars as she made her way over the highways lanes. At the time of this writing, the Florida Highway Patrol is uncertain as to why the woman chose to cross the interstate.
The accident took place close to Colonial Drive and involved a car that has yet to be described. As is often the case in Florida accidents involving a pedestrian, the driver of the vehicle drove away immediately after the accident. A manhunt is now underway and the police are seeking any witnesses to the accident who can give a description of the vehicle or any information at all that could lead to the apprehension of the driver.
Immediately after the accident, another person passing by stopped to offer the woman assistance. Her injuries were critical and an emergency crew that arrived at the scene rushed her to Orlando Regional Medical Center for urgent care. At the time of this writing it is not known whether or not she survived her injuries and, if so, what condition she survived them in.
The most unsettling element of this case is that the driver of the vehicle that struck the woman left her lying, badly injured, on the highway. Until that moment, it was possible that they would find themselves cleared of wrongdoing, as it is not usual for drivers along Interstate 4 to find themselves confronted with foot traffic. It is only now, after they fled the scene of a potentially fatal crash, that they have clearly broken the law. The only way for them to temper the charges which will inevitably be brought against them is to turn themselves over to the authorities before they are caught.
