Pedestrian Killed Crossing U.S. 192 in Osceola County
Around 9:45 A.M. on Tuesday, John Levien, 82, from Celebration was using the crosswalk to pass over International Drive and U.S. Highway 192 in Osceola County. At the same time, a box truck being driven by Kissimmee resident John Walker, 35, was driving southbound on International drive. When he reached the intersection, Mr. Walker began making a right turn into U.S. 192’s westbound lane. The truck and the car collided.
Catastrophic Accident in Boynton Beach Kills 5 Year-Old Child
In a catastrophic accident on Sunday, February 15th, a 5 year-old boy was struck and killed by a car who was attempting to flee police. The sequence of events that led to the boy’s death began about 1:30 p.m. when Boynton Beach police attempted to stop Lex Eugene, 20, for reckless driving at the corner of Miner Road and Federal Highway in Boynton Beach. Eugene fled in a 2008 Buick Enclave and attempted to make a right turn onto northbound Summit Road when he lost control of the vehicle and went onto the sidewalk, striking Jayden Readon, 5, who was walking with his younger brother and his great-grandparents.
Clearwater Woman Critically Injured in Pedestrian Collision
The daughter of a 53-year-old woman who was critically injured in a hit-and-run is pleading for the driver to come forward. Tammie Whiting was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in critical condition after she was hit by a vehicle on November 20th. Whiting, a mother of four and grandmother of six, sustained injuries that include major head trauma in the accident. Her daughter, Quantel, is now making a plea to the driver to come forward and turn himself/herself in. According to police, Whiting was crossing Myrtle Avenue at Turner Street in the crosswalk, and intersection in Clearwater Beach. She had waited for the green light before she was hit by a southbound car that had run the red light. The driver of the car then sped off, officials say.
Rise In Florida Pedestrian Deaths Concerns Officials
A sharp rise in the number of Lake County pedestrian deaths has officials very concerned about safety. To date in 2015, there have been 12 pedestrian deaths in the county. Comparatively, there were eight pedestrian deaths in all of 2014. The last year the number of victims was this high was 2011, when there were eleven deaths for the entire year.
Florida No Longer Most Dangerous Pedestrian State
For four years, Florida was ranked the worst state in the nation for pedestrian safety, according to Dangerous by Design, as study of America’s roads. But not anymore. This year, Florida moved down to number five, preceded by Delaware, New Mexico, South Carolina, and Louisiana.
Pedestrian Killed in DuPont Bridge Traffic Accident
On September 11th, a vehicle struck a pedestrian on DuPont Bridge on Hwy. 98 in Parker, Florida. The victim was taken to Bay Medical Center in critical condition, and died Saturday afternoon.
New Improvements to Orlando Crosswalks
A new program in Orange County will bring improvements to the areas sidewalks and roads. The county is home to many hazardous areas for walkers and bicyclists, and metro Orlando is one of the most dangerous areas in the nation for pedestrians. Even in areas where there are existing crosswalks, officials say the safety measures are outdated.
Pedestrian Killed on Florida State Road A1A
In late August, a woman was trying to cross a busy area of State Road A1A when she was struck by a car and died. She was hit by a grey Chevrolet sedan on a Sunday night. This accident is tragic, and even more upsetting is the fact that it is the third pedestrian accident to take place in the same area of the highway over the past four months.

Orlando Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident
A tragic accident took place around 9 a.m. on June 10th, 2015 near Orlando, Florida. The driver was on his way to visit his wife in the hospital when he hit a pedestrian and drove away from the scene, according to police reports. The victim, a 58-year-old man from Leesburg, was walking along the northbound side of U.S. Highway 27 when he was hit by the 88-year-old driver. He died at the scene.
