Orlando Pedestrian Struck and Killed at John Young Parkway and Colonial Drive

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 9, 2018

Police with the Orlando Police Department are working on an investigation into an accident that happened close to the intersection of John Young Parkway and Colonial Drive in Orlando on Saturday, September 1st, that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. Reports from the authorities suggest that it was sometime around 9:00 at night and the pedestrian was walking along either John Young Parkway or Colonial Drive. It is also possible that the pedestrian was in the process of crossing one of these streets in order to get to the other or simply to reach the other side of the roadway.

The reports do not provide much information regarding the individuals involved and we have yet to learn the names, ages, or places of residence for either the pedestrian or the driver of the car. The reports also failed to state whether or not the pedestrian was in the road at the time of the crash or if they were walking along a sidewalk or shoulder. If they were in the road, it is important to know whether or not the pedestrian was inside of a crosswalk at the time of the incident.

The car came down the roadway and approached the pedestrian. It is possible that the area where the car was traveling does not feature a stoplight, stop sign, or pedestrian crossing. If this is the case, then it would have been unlikely for the driver of the car to be watching out for people on foot in the area. If there were pedestrian safety features and zones, then it was the responsibility of the driver to ensure that they remained acutely aware of the any individuals attempting to cross the road or standing near to the road.

When the car struck the pedestrian, it did so with enough force to inflict fatal damage. Despite the swift response of paramedics and other emergency medical teams, there was nothing they could do to assist the injured person and they were declared dead at the scene of the incident.

It is believed that the driver of the car remained at the scene of the accident and that they continue to offer their cooperation with the police.
