Orlando Man Struck and Killed on Forest City Road
On Saturday, a car of an unknown make or model was driving southward on Forest City Road close to 8:30 in the evening when it struck a man who was crossing the street. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating this accident which occurred close to All American Boulevard in Orange County. The initial findings suggest that the accident occurred when the pedestrian crossed directly in front of the vehicle as marks on the car clearly show the collision happening along its forward end. At this point in time, it is not clear whether or not the driver or the pedestrian is at fault for the accident.
Initial findings suggest that the pedestrian was James Armstrong, a 59-year-old Orlando resident. It is not known whether or not he was coming from his house or from some other location. It is also not known where he was heading to. At the time of day when the accident took place the sun still hung in the sky, which makes this case additionally unusual. Pedestrians are most often struck by cars at night, when visibility is low and a person walking across the street is hard to see.
The Orange County Fire Rescue stated that after the accident took place Armstrong was rushed to the Orlando Regional Medical Center. He was listed as being a trauma alert. Unfortunately, the extent of his wounds prevented his recovery and he was declared dead shortly after arriving.
Currently, the accident is still under investigation. Authorities will be looking for any factors which contributed to the accident such as alcohol, drugs, or other foreign agents working adversely in the systems of either of the two individuals involved. It is not known whether or not the driver of the vehicle—who has not yet been named—was placed under arrest or if the initial investigation found them innocent of any great wrongdoing. However, this does not mean that the family of Armstrong will not press charges of their own.
The crash is still under investigation, and as the Florida Highway Patrol and Florida State Troopers gather more information it will be released to the public.
