Florida Highway Patrol Investigates Pedestrian Death in Winter Park

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on October 10, 2018

Reports from the Florida Highway patrol recently emerged regarding an incident that happened in Winter Park earlier this month and resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The reports state that the pedestrian in question was walking along Aloma Avenue, nearing the intersection of Aloma Avenue and Palmetto Avenue, when they were struck by a car also traveling down the same road.

It is not clear if the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street when the incident took place or if they were walking along the shoulder of the road. The reports also did not name the pedestrian, although it is not clear if this is because the pedestrian was not identified or because their family had not been reached in regards to the incident.

The car, which was traveling down the western lanes of Aloma Avenue, reached the area where the pedestrian was walking and, either because they did not see the pedestrian or for some other reason, did not manage to avoid striking the pedestrian. The pedestrian was thrown to the ground with severe injuries and lay there for an unspecified amount of time until the emergency response teams reached them.

It is not known who called 9-1-1 in relation to the incident. It is also not known if the driver of the car which struck and fatally injured the pedestrian remained at the scene of the crash of fled before the authorities arrived. If the latter is the case, the Florida Highway Patrol will be conducting a search for the individual and any information that people connected to the incident can provide will be much needed and appreciated.

When the paramedics and EMTs reached the area, the pedestrian was still alive, although badly injured. The medical teams carefully placed the person inside of an ambulance and rushed them to Winter Park Memorial Hospital for treatment. Once in the emergency medical facility, the injuries that the pedestrian sustained in the crash itself proved too overwhelming for their body to recover from and they were pronounced dead.

The investigation into the incident remains underway while detectives with the Florida Highway Patrol attempt to uncover just what happened and why.
