Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Orlando’s Curry Ford Road
Last Wednesday, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol reported on an accident that took place between a car and a pedestrian along an Orange County road. The statement outlines the events that ultimately led to the death of an 82-year-old man in an incident that is still under investigation. At close to 5:40 in the evening, Mohini, the 82-year-old Orlando resident, was on foot by Curry Ford Road, close to the intersection with Arbor View Road, when he attempted to cross the street. It seems that Mohini was able to make it across eastbound lanes without incident and had been standing in the median before deciding to cross the westbound lanes.
At this time, an unnamed 30-year-old woman driving a four-door 2017 Honda came down one of Curry Ford Road’s westbound lanes. Mohini—not seeing the Honda, unaware of how fast the car was going, or for some other reason—stepped out from the median and directly into the car’s path. The car then struck Mohini, critically injuring the man.
The driver of the car, as is not always the case with accidents involving cars and pedestrians in Orange County, remained at the scene of the incident. It is not known if it was she who called 9-1-1, but the emergency services were notified as to the incident and arrived shortly after the collision took place. EMTs and paramedics attended to Mohini and transported him to Florida Hospital East. According to the official report, Mohini died shortly after arriving at the hospital, his injuries too severe for his body and the attending medical personnel to overcome.
The Honda’s driver was not injured in the crash and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. Tests conducted at the scene of the accident and at the hospital confirmed that neither Mohini nor the driver of the Honda were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, although it is not clear whether or not the authorities will look to see if any other substances could have been involved in the fatal incident.
