65-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed in Apopka

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on October 29, 2018

Police in Orange County are working on a case that happened towards the end of October that resulted in the death of a pedestrian inside of the city of Apopka. Florida Highway Patrol Officials told reporters that the incident took place sometime around 8:50 in the evening along Apopka Boulevard. The police stated that the accident happened just before Apopka Boulevard intersects with Sugar Pine Road and that the individual who died as a result was a 65-year-old resident of Apopka. The name of this individual has yet to be released pending contact with the victim’s family.

The exact events that led to this individual’s death are not immediately clear. We do know some things though that may be of help in uncovering the reasons behind this sad incident. We know, for instance, that the man was walking along Apopka Boulevard in the moments before the crash. For reasons that are not entirely clear, the man then decided to leave the side of the road and cross the street. It is not known if the man was on a sidewalk before making this decision or if they were simply walking along the shoulder of the road.

The area where the man chose to cross is not believed to contain a crosswalk. This being so, drivers coming down the roadway would not expect to find themselves suddenly confronted with an elderly person walking in front of them. This is exactly what happened to an individual driving a 2004 Ford Mustang.

This car was being driven down the northern lanes of Apopka Boulevard when it reached the point of the road that contained the 65-year-old. The driver of the Mustang did not notice the pedestrian until it was too late for any correction of course to be effective. The car then struck the pedestrian, knocking him to the ground and inflicting severe injuries on him.

Despite the work of the paramedics and EMTs who arrived on the scene, there was nothing that could be done to save the life of the pedestrian. He was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

No charges have yet been filed, but the incident remains under investigation.
