It was no ordinary day by the shores this past Saturday in Panama City Beach Florida. A family of nine became stranded offshore by the strong riptide, and subsequently rescued by a chain of 80 good samaritan bystanders.
Two Men Disappear in Orlando’s Lake Hiawassee
In the middle of Orlando’s Lake Hiawassee, around 4:00 on Sunday afternoon, an overturned boat was discovered. After the boat was reached and righted by the Orlando Police Department, they discovered a good amount of fishing equipment still inside of the hold. After a lengthy search that included a team of divers from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the authorities were able to uncover a wallet and several personal items that belonged to a man. According to the report, the police search also discovered a truck parked nearby that they believe was used to launch the overturned boat. Furthermore, it is believed that this car belongs to a second man.

Last Monday morning in St. Petersburg, Florida, officers responded to a rash of complaints involving a small group of pit bulls that had gotten loose and allegedly bitten two elderly women in the neighborhood.
July 4th Weekend Crash Leaves Two Floridians Seriously Injured
Two Kissimmee, Florida natives were seriously injured in an automobile crash on the Florida turnpike leading into the long July 4th holiday weekend. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident happened when the 56-year-old male driver lost control of his 2009 Toyota Corolla near the Okahumpka Service Plaza. This caused him to swerve off the road and hit a tree located along the highway’s shoulder.
Passenger in Last Week’s Orlando Head-On Collision Dies
A 23 year old female who was severely injured in a fire-filled two vehicle crash in the Orlando area last week has died. The death follows that of a 28 year old Melbourne, Florida male who died at the scene. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the female died at Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was being treated since the incident last week.
Family Visiting Silver Springs State Park Frightened by Monkeys
A family from the town of Estero visiting Silver Springs State Park suffered a shock this past week when their happy outing turned menacing due to territorial Rhesus macaque monkeys. The report from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection said that the encounter began harmlessly enough, with the family spotting several monkeys clowning around an observation deck located within the park. As the family filmed the monkeys, more and more began to arrive. Then the monkeys began to approach the park guests, who reported that they animals were making angry sounds as they drew nearer and nearer.
Wrong Way Crash Leaves One Dead Near Orlando
A 23 year old woman from Sumter County, Florida, was killed over the long Fourth of July weekend following a wrong way accident near Orlando, Florida. The victim was behind the wheel of a 2013 Kia Optima driving on State Road 50 at 1:00 am when she was hit head on by a 2011 Dodge Charger. The Dodge Charger was driven by a male from Brooksville, who, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), was driving the wrong way on SR 50. It is unknown why he was traveling in the wrong lane at the time of the accident.
Satellite Beach Woman’s Home Destroyed in Fire
Tuesday Evening marked the anniversary of our country’s independence. As always, this event lead to a tremendous amount of celebrating throughout the country, with people drinking, grilling, and lighting off fireworks. In Satellite Beach, in seems that this merrymaking may have led to a disastrous house fire that completely razed the home of an elderly woman. Although the official statement is not able to unequivocally state that fireworks were the cause of the fire, the details in the case seem to point in this direction.
Head-On Crash in Volusia County Leaves Teenager Dead
Early on Wednesday morning, a head-on collision occurred in Volusia County that left one teenager dead and two other individuals badly injured. According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred shortly after 1:00 in the morning of July 5th, close to where State Road 415 crosses Colony Road. The particular stretch also lies at a point in between Deltona and New Smyrna Beach.
Orlando Hot Air Balloon Crash Leaves One Injured
A hot air balloon carrying 17 people crashed near Walt Disney World in Orlando on Monday. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the balloon crashed into a retention pond near State Road 429 at Western Way. One person was injured, although the Orange County Fire Rescue says the injuries did not seem to be serious.
