Man Arrested for Fatal Hit-and-Run of Cyclist in Volusia County
This past Saturday, an officer with the South Daytona Police Department was driving along Ridgewood Avenue close to 3:00 in the morning when he saw an abandoned bicycle in the street’s median. The part that most troubled the officer was that the bike’s front light was still on. Climbing out of the cruiser, the officer approached the bike. He discovered debris from a car scattered around the bike, and the bike itself seemed to have sustained damage. Movement in the grass alerted the officer to the presence of the bicyclist. He was lying nearby, and the officer could tell immediately that the man was very badly injured.

Rocker Killed in Florida Tractor-Trailer Accident
The bassist for the New York-based metal band Adrenaline Mob died last week following a three-car Florida accident. According to Florida Police, the 38-year-old David Zablidowsky was killed when a tractor-trailer swerved off the highway and into the two vehicles carrying members of the band. The band was pulled over on the side of the road fixing a flat tire when the accident, which left seven others injured, occurred.
Orlando Man Miraculously Alive after 4-Ton Metal Object Rolls off Overpass
An Orlando resident named Jesus A. Escobar narrowly survived a harrowing and bizarre accident on Saturday morning after an enormous piece of metal toppled off of an overpass and landed directly on top of the van he was driving. The Florida Highway Patrol has issued a statement saying that they were first alerted to a crash along the westbound lanes of Interstate 4. According to the statement, a tractor-trailer pulling a load of scrap metal was attempting to turn off of the interstate and onto State Road 528 when the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle, which caused it to collide with a guardrail and flip over.
Name Released of Man Killed in Florida Boating Accident
On July 4th, several Orlando men were enjoying the sunshine and the spirit of celebration while on a personal watercraft on Lake Butler when their vessel overturned. The accident threw all three men into the water, although all remained alive and well at this time. According to the initial statement about the incident, the boat overturned as the three men were attempting to make a turn in the popular Orange County lake. This reportedly occurred around 7:45 in the evening. While the men were able to ultimately right the watercraft, one of them became submerged for reasons that were not immediately clear. Witnesses to the incident managed to reach the three men and retrieve the sinking man. They pulled him to shore and, after finding him unresponsive, began to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Fatal Workplace Accident at Tampa Electric Company Power Plant
An electric plant at Apollo Beach was the site of a terrible accident several weeks ago that left two people dead and numerous others in critical condition. According to the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, firefighters were alerted to the incident on the afternoon of June 29th. The emergency call took the rescue teams to the Tampa Electric Company where employees had been in the process of cleaning a slag tank. According to a spokesperson for the Tampa Electric Company, the initial explosion took place inside of a coal-fired power generator. The slag tank is where the burnt coal is dumped after it gets consumed by the generator. It is not known whether or not the generator was supposed to be operating at the time of the explosion.
Second Teenager in Two Months Dies in Marion County Quarry
On Monday morning, a group of teenagers snuck onto the property of limestone quarry in Ocala in order to swim and dive off of the steep rock face into the deep water. One of them, a 17-year-old Largo resident named Trey Austin Dagwan Cardoza, was performing a jump into the water when, according to some of the others at the scene, he plunged beneath the surface of the water and never came back up.
Rear-End Collision Kills Orange County Man
A 24-year-old male from Palm Bay, Florida died this week following an automobile crash. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash happened in the early evening on State Road 520 in Orange County, just about one mile south of James Creek Road. The victim was driving his 2013 Hyundai east when he failed to slow down as he approached a semi-truck ahead of him. His car hit the back of the trailer, causing the crash that killed him. The 34-year-old Miami man driving the semi-truck was not hurt.
Osceola County Hit-and-Run Results in Death of Teenager
On Saturday night, the Florida Highway Patrol received a call that directed them to Orange Blossom Trail, close to where the road crosses Hope Street in Osceola County. Along the shoulder of the road, the responding police and other emergency crew members discovered the 17-year-old Joyvan Ventura Villafane.
Orlando Good Samaritan Dies While Offering Roadside Assistance
A good samaritan who was helping victims of an Interstate 95 accident was killed on Tuesday. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the samaritan was hit while out helping a South Carolina family who was involved in an automobile crash in Volusia County near I-95’s mile marker 277.
