Satellite Beach Woman’s Home Destroyed in Fire
Tuesday Evening marked the anniversary of our country’s independence. As always, this event lead to a tremendous amount of celebrating throughout the country, with people drinking, grilling, and lighting off fireworks. In Satellite Beach, in seems that this merrymaking may have led to a disastrous house fire that completely razed the home of an elderly woman. Although the official statement is not able to unequivocally state that fireworks were the cause of the fire, the details in the case seem to point in this direction.
The Satellite Beach Fire Department received a call late on Tuesday about a house on fire along the 600 block of Caribbean Road. Fire engines immediately rushed to the scene, where they saw the house completely engulfed in flames. During the next few hours, the firefighters battled the aggressive blaze, and it almost seemed that they were succeeding in completely subduing the fire, but around the time that reporters from the News 6 organization arrived the fire sprang back to life, forcing the firefighters to redouble their efforts.
An elderly woman is believed to be the home’s only resident, and it is confirmed that she was able to flee from the house before the smoke and flame overtook her. At this moment, there is no indication that anyone suffered injuries as a result of the fire.
The fire, which it seems began around 9:00 in the evening, started in the home’s garage before spreading to the home itself. The Satellite Beach Fire Department have reason to believe that the cause of the fire is a professional style firework that either got away from someone trying to light it off or was otherwise intentionally aimed at the home. While the police investigate, it is also important to remember that, on a day when fireworks are going off everywhere, it might be difficult for them to locate the culprits whose actions started this particular accident.
Neighbors indicated that the intensity of fireworks on Tuesday evening was astronomical, with some comparing it to a war zone. Even before this fire, there were numerous demands for fireworks of this sort to be banned from the residential areas in Satellite Beach. It is likely that after this event the campaign to ban larger fireworks will find greater purchase in the hearts and minds of those who can put a law banning fireworks into place.
