Florida Nursing Homes Facing New Safety Regulations
Governor Rick Scott stayed true to his word this week by implementing several new safety standards and regulations for assisted living facilities in the state of Florida. Scott had vowed to take action after it was discovered that multiple nursing homes and ACF’s throughout the state were ill-equipped to deal with natural disasters and the problems that arise in the days immediately afterwards.
Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Orlando’s Curry Ford Road
Last Wednesday, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol reported on an accident that took place between a car and a pedestrian along an Orange County road. The statement outlines the events that ultimately led to the death of an 82-year-old man in an incident that is still under investigation. At close to 5:40 in the evening, Mohini, the 82-year-old Orlando resident, was on foot by Curry Ford Road, close to the intersection with Arbor View Road, when he attempted to cross the street. It seems that Mohini was able to make it across eastbound lanes without incident and had been standing in the median before deciding to cross the westbound lanes.
Driver Who Crashed into School Bus in Orange County Arrested on DUI Charges
Last Monday, 27-year-old Kissimmee resident Massengale was driving down Sand Lake Road when he crashed into the side of a school bus at close to 5:00 in the evening. At the time of the collision, no students were aboard the bus, a fact which likely saved numerous individuals, specifically children, from injuries or worse. When officers with the Florida Highway Patrol and the Orange County Fire Rescue arrived at the scene, they found that Massengale appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. Additionally, drugs and drug related items—including a needle still clutched in Massengale’s hand—were found inside of the car.
Fatal Head-On Collision with Delivery Truck in Orlando
An Orlando crash that took place early on Friday morning resulted in the death of one woman and the hospitalization of a delivery truck driver. Police with the Orlando Police Department are currently still investigating the accident, but it seems as though the crash happened just before 3:00 in the morning and involved two vehicles, one of them a large delivery-style truck.
DeLand Woman Severely Burned in August Car Fire Dies
In August, a horrifying incident occurred in DeLand that resulted in a 39-year-old woman suffering life-threatening burns along her arms and face. This past Sunday, it was reported that the woman, a DeLand resident named Tracy Adams, died as a result of the injuries she sustained.
Disney’s Wine & Dine Marathon Runner Fatally Collapses
The Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon, which takes place along Lake Buena Vista, is a popular event for both casual and serious runners as well as those who just enjoy spending more time in the Disney universe. This past Sunday, nearly 15,000 people attended the event, which begins at Magic Kingdom and ends at Epcot after taking runners on a 13.1 mile course.
Woman on Horse Arrested, Charged with DUI in Lakeland
In Lakeland last week, a 53-year-old woman named Donna Byrne was apprehended by deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office after she was seen on the road looking bewildered as well as weaving around the street in a manner that suggested she was not fit to be on the street. Additionally, witnesses to the incident on Combee Road, close to North Crystal Lake Road, reported feeling as though the horse Byrne was riding was in danger. The deputies arrived shortly after the call was placed, stopped the horse, and had Byrne dismount the animal.
Orlando Man Killed after Friend Hits Him with Car in Parking Garage
An Orlando man was arrested last Wednesday after crashing his car into his friend in a downtown parking garage. The report from the Orlando Police Department describes the incident in its most complete detail. It seems that at some point early in the morning, just before 4:00, the 25-year-old William Aloupis and two friends took an elevator down to the Lincoln Plaza Parking Garage to retrieve a car. Surveillance videos of the scene depict the three men as being visibly intoxicated. One of the friends, Jonathan Anglada, was unable to stand on his own, and the other two left him slumped against one of the parking garage’s walls as they made their way to the car, which belonged to Anglada.
Fatal T-Bone Crash at Waterbridge Drive
A 63-year-old Orlando man was pronounced dead at Orlando Regional Medical Center this past Wednesday evening after sustaining severe injuries in a car accident on Waterbridge Drive. According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man, Dario Pineda Romera, received the injuries while standing outside of his vehicle at the intersection of Waterbridge Drive and Orange Blossom Trail.

On Wednesday morning, children throughout Orange County and the state of Florida were making their way towards their various schools.
