Florida Police Looking for Witnesses in Multi-Car Crash That Killed Motorcyclist

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on November 11, 2012

St. Cloud police officers are asking for help from anyone who may have witnessed a four-vehicle accident on Highway 192 that killed a motorcyclist. Police say that the accident occurred on Oct. 15 around 3:20 p.m. and involved two sport utility vehicles and two motorcycles. The accident killed a 54-year-old Barefoot Bay man who was operating one of the motorcycles when the accident occurred. The accident closed Highway 192 near Oregon Avenue for nearly nine hours as police conducted their investigation and debris was cleared from the crash site.

The police have not disclosed details about the crash due to conflicting reports from those involved. Footage of the crash site showed two SUVs that appeared to have collided head-on. Police say that one of the SUVs, a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, struck the victim’s motorcycle, fatally injuring him. Another motorcycle, driven by the victim’s wife, barely avoided being involved in the accident. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them at 407-891-6700 and ask for the traffic unit at ext. 6749.

Since the police are understandably being cautious about the details of the accident, it’s difficult to know who may have been at fault for causing it. However, in many cases, the drivers of cars, trucks and other larger vehicles cause motorcycle accidents by pulling out in front of riders and violating their right of way. When this occurs, riders have little or no time to react and take evasive action. Many collide with the vehicle that cut them off and suffer serious injuries that prevent them from working and enjoying their favorite activities for the rest of their lives.
