Police Officer Severely Injured in South Florida Hit-and-Run Crash
Authorities with the North Miami Beach Police Department and additional law enforcement agencies are currently working to determine the chain of events that led to a shot fired incident and a hit-and-run collision involving an officer this past Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 172nd Street.
According to a statement from North Miami Beach Police Chief Richard Rand, it was close to 1 p.m. on June 10th, 2021, when an auto accident between a red car and a white car occurred near Northeast 172nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard, just north of the The Reserve at Marina Palms condominiums. Two officers who were already in the housing complex investigating another case were flagged over by a bystander to assist the drivers of both vehicles and when one of them approached the red car, the female driver attempted to drive away and struck the officer in the torso and legs as she did so.
Local emergency response teams rushed the severely wounded officer to the nearest hospital where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries sustained to the mid-torso and lower portions of his body.
Almost immediately after the driver of the red car left the condo’s parking lot, shots were fired at the hit-and-run suspect by an on-site officer with the North Miami Beach Police Department in order to disable the vehicle. K-9 units were also dispatched to the scene in order to assist authorities with the apprehension of the female driver. After striking another car in the area, the woman was finally arrested and taken to a local hospital where she is listed to be in stable condition.
Depending on whether or not the officer survives the severity of his injuries, the hit-and-run suspect has the potential to face a multitude of life-changing legal charges, one of which will most certainly include aggravated battery with a motor vehicle on a police officer.
