Michigan Tourist Killed in Orlando Pedestrian Accident
A young Michigan woman, who was vacationing with her husband in Orlando at the time of the incident, was killed late Sunday evening just before 11:30 p.m. when she was involved in a tragic pedestrian accident near the Orange County Convention Center.
Thirty-one year-old Jennifer Garringer from Walled Lake, Michigan was attempting to cross Universal Boulevard at Convention Circle in the designated crosswalk path, when she was struck by a 2002 Lexus that was travelling westbound on the same road. The impact of the collision was so great that it propelled her onto the hood of the vehicle, and flung the car’s 26-year-old female passenger into the windshield. Immediately after the crash, the driver of the Lexus, 25-year-old Yashpaul Boodram from Orlando, fled the scene. Emergency services were dispatched to the accident and Garringer was transported to Dr. Phillips Hospital, where she passed away from her injuries. A local security guard was witness to this fatal hit-and-run, and proceeded to chase Boodram down and bring him back to the scene of the crime. He was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Additional charges are pending as the investigation is ongoing.
The victim, Jennifer Garringer, was a forensics lab specialist deputy with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in Walled Lake, Michigan. She began her career there in 2013 as a firearms analyst, receiving many accolades, awards, and promotions along the way. “Our hearts and prayers are with Jennifer’s family during this difficult time. Her contributions to our agency in the forensic lab have helped to close countless investigations and bring justice to victims. She will truly be missed and our agency is a little less vibrant without her as part of the team,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
