Jogger Victim of Fatal Hit-and-Run in Cocoa West

In a terrible accident in the early morning hours of Monday, February 15th, 2016, a man was struck and killed while jogging on a rural road in Brevard County. The accident occurred along Satellite Boulevard near Dean Drive in the Cocoa West area, slightly north of State Road 520.

The victim of the incident was 39-year-old Jason Rodeghier, who had left the house for his usual morning jog around 4:30 a.m. According to Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol, Rodeghier’s girlfriend said he had gone out for his run and simply never came back. Unbeknownst to his girlfriend, Rodeghier had been fatally struck by a vehicle that immediately fled the scene.

Jim Reynolds, a local from the area where Rodeghier was killed, shared his sentiments with area news outlets, opining that the perpetrator of the crime will have to live with it for the rest of his or her life. Sgt. Montes also offered her thoughts, suggesting that if Rodeghier had received the appropriate care after the accident rather than being left on the scene, his outcome may have been quite different.

Since the accident occurred, the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle has not yet been identified. According to Florida State Troopers, pieces of the vehicle were found at the scene of the incident. The pieces appear to belong to a grey Chrysler and indicate front-end damage, possibly including headlight and turn signal damage. Florida Highway Patrol authorities are requesting that individuals who may have any relevant information call the state’s Crimeline.
