Elderly Woman Struck and Killed By Semi-Truck In Orlando Hit-And-Run Accident
On the morning of Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016, an elderly woman was hit by a semi-truck as she waited to cross the road. The woman survived, but the incident left her hospitalized in critical condition.
The as-of-yet unnamed 68-year-old victim was standing at the intersection of Kingspointe Parkway and Sand Lake Road near Tangelo Park around 11 a.m. that morning, waiting for traffic to clear so that she could use the crosswalk. At the same time, a semi-truck was stopped at the intersection in the right turn lane. When the truck attempted to make the right turn onto Sand Lake Road, the trailer swung out and hit the woman.
According to authorities who were present at the scene, the driver of the semi-truck had stopped temporarily after the incident occurred, but drove away from the scene in an undetermined direction as emergency response workers began to arrive. Unfortunately, neither Florida Highway Patrol troopers nor any witnesses were able to take note of any particular identifying information with regard to the truck. Currently, the best description of the semi involved in the crash identifies it as a semi-truck with a white trailer. Any individuals with relevant information are urged to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
Since the incident, no additional information has been released as to the victim’s state of health or the status of the investigation. Until Florida Highway Patrol troopers are able to identify the driver of the semi-truck that struck the woman, authorities are not able to bring charges against anyone to obtain justice for the victim.
