Crimeline Tip Leads to Arrest in Fatal Orlando Hit-and-Run Accident
Friends and family of Boca Raton native Margarita Contreras, 58, can hopefully rest their heads a little easier this evening knowing that the man who allegedly caused her fatal hit-and-run accident seven months ago has finally been arrested, and is currently behind bars.
It was approximately 1:15 a.m. that fateful October morning when Contreras was involved in a minor fender bender on Orange Blossom Trail near Osceola Parkway in Orlando, Florida. Having believed she had dropped her wallet in all of the commotion, the elderly woman parked her vehicle inside a parking garage near the scene of the initial incident, and then proceeded to search the side of the road for her belongings. That is when the deadly collision occurred. Emergency response teams at the scene provided life-saving care, but the victim had suffered fatal injuries and passed away at the local hospital.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol searched the area for over a week, seeking out the vehicle they believed to have caused the hit-and-run accident, but with no results. That is until the authorities received an anonymous phone call tip to the local crimeline stating the location of said vehicle. After confirming the veracity of the information, troopers discovered a silver Nissan sedan that appeared to have all the markings of a pedestrian accident, including a smashed windshield, broken bumper, and severely dented hood. This led to the eventual arrest of Victor Baradit Fernandez, 59, an unlicensed driver from Orlando, who turned himself in to the Osceola County Jail shortly thereafter. According to official jail records, his bail has been set at $8,000.00.
